Zoom
The Royal College of Dentists of Canada would like to invite you to the next session of our monthly webinar series on January 28, 2025 at 8:00 PM Eastern Time.
We are pleased to welcome two graduate students from the Université de Montréal presenting on topics in Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Yen-Chau Nguyen – Building Trust: Comprehensive Dental Care and Post-Trauma Recovery for a Patient with Autism.
This case involves the management of a dental traumatic injury on a 16-year-old patient with autism. Despite initial challenges with behaviour management, trust was established with consistent care and nitrous oxide sedation. We were able to achieve successful completion of procedures, such as reimplantation of an avulsed tooth, endodontic treatment, decoronation, and the placement of a fixed prosthetic appliance. Our objective was to respond to the functional and esthetic needs of the patient. The case emphasizes the importance of a patient and family-centred approach, clear communication with the family, and tailored strategies with flexibility for patients with special healthcare needs following a trauma.
Learning objectives:
- Discuss behaviour management strategies for success in neurodivergent patients.
- Discuss the importance of adaptable treatment plans to manage complications of trauma in patients with neurodivergence.
- Review the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration and informed consent with patients and their families.
Dr. Wenjia Wu – Exploring Dental Treatment Options : X-linked Hypophosphatemia.
X-linked hypophosphatemia is a rare metabolic disorder that presents challenges in both medical and dental management, especially in the pediatric population. This presentation will review, through a case presentation, the medical and dental implications of the disease as well as discuss alternative treatment options for affected patients.
Learning Objectives:
