Dr. Leslie P. Laing – Mouth Mystique of Sjögren’s Disease: Combating Dryness.
Sjögren’s Disease (SjD) stands as the second most prevalent systemic autoimmune condition, yet its oral manifestations remain a complex puzzle for many clinicians. This session pulls back the curtain on the “mouth mystique,” exploring the interplay between SjD and the oral microbiome—where the shift in the microbiome creates a hostile environment for oral health and some “black magic” comes to the rescue by identifying and neutralizing decay at the microbial level. We will navigate the systemic debilitation of the disease, address the unique prosthodontic hurdles in SjD management, and equip practitioners with evidence-based, mouth-watering techniques to restore function and comfort.
Learning Objectives:
- To evaluate the extent of the oral and systemic debilitation associated with Sjögren’s Disease (SjD);
- To explore the oral and prosthodontic challenges in treating patients with SjD; and
- To provide evidence-based management strategies for oral health.
