Convocation

I passed the Fellowship Examination and will become a Fellow at Convocation. When may I use the FRCDC designation?

You may use the designation of Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (FRCDC) once your name has been called from the register during the Convocation Ceremony.

Do I have to attend Convocation to become a Fellow?

No, attending Convocation is not mandatory. You automatically become a Fellow once your name has been read from the register during the Convocation Ceremony.

If I cannot attend the 2024 Convocation in-person, can I join the 2025 Celebrations instead?

It depends. If you cannot attend the 2024 Convocation in-person, you have the option of becoming a Fellow in absentia, or deferring your Fellowship to a future year with no penalty.

If you become a Fellow in absentia, your name will be read during the Convocation Ceremony on September 28, 2024, and you will immediately begin to enjoy the benefits of Fellowship. In this case, you will not be able to walk the stage and obtain your Certificate in any future Convocation Ceremony, since you will already be a Fellow of the College.

If you prefer, you may instead defer obtaining your Fellowship until you are able to attend in-person. In this case, your name will not be read during the Convocation Ceremony in September 2024, and you will not become a RCDC Fellow right away. Please note that you will not need to repeat the Fellowship Examination – your ‘PASS’ mention will remain valid.
