Recognizing the profound implications that artificial intelligence (AI) in dentistry will have on clinical practice, the training of dental specialists, and the expertise required to deliver the highest standard of oral health care to the public, in 2023, RCDC established a Task Force on AI and Emerging Digital Technology (RCDC AI Task Force). The RCDC AI Task Force has recruited several academic and clinical leaders from across Canada who are involved in specialty programs at universities as task force members.

In summer 2024, the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO) engaged in public consultations regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Dentistry. As part of this process, the RCDC AI Task Force developed a position paper, which was sent to the RCDSO and can be accessed here.

The Indigenous Dental Association of Canada (IDAC) is proud to announce the launch of an exciting new video project, coinciding with National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21. This initiative aims to highlight the importance of oral health within Indigenous communities, showcase traditional knowledge, and celebrate the contributions of Indigenous dental professionals.

The video project: Joyce’s Tooth Tales – A Journey of Courage and Wisdom, features a series of insightful stories introducing a young girl who shares her oral health journey; from her first loose tooth and first cavity to becoming a dental specialist.

The content also delves into the unique challenges faced by Indigenous communities in accessing dental care and the innovative solutions to overcome these barriers.

We invite everyone to watch these compelling short video stories and join us in recognizing the vital role of oral health in the overall well-being of Indigenous communities.

The videos are available on the IDAC YouTube Channel.
