We are pleased to welcome two graduate students from McGill University presenting on topics in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Hans Shih – Zygomatic Implant Perforated Flap.
Maxillectomy patients present a challenge for oral rehabilitation secondary to the loss of bone and soft tissue support. The changes in tissue contour leads to difficulties in retaining conventional prostheses including partial dentures and complete dentures. The addition of adjuvant radiation therapy compounds the problems secondary to decreases in salivary flow, which is normally an important element for retention of removable prostheses. The loss of bony support often precludes traditional implants placement. The zygomatic implant perforated flap was introduced into the field as an innovative technique to overcome these challenges. The talk will review zygomatic implants, the zygomatic implant perforated flap, followed by a case.
